The JLGB has recently been going through some exciting changes to help better meet the needs and support local Jewish communities and Leeds JLGB is no exception. The new and enthusiastic team of staff is lead by Paul Task, who was in the original Leeds JLGB as a boy, and is supported by 8 students studying at Leeds University from all over the UK. The new team will ensure the group get the most out of their weekly meetings and will encourage all members to take part in as many of the other activities and events that JLGB offer throughout the year including the new Enterprise Award. “THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC”, SAY JLGB MUSICIANS60 young Jewish musicians aged 11-16 from across the UK joined together for JLGB Band Camp. The musical training weekend for woodwind, brass and percussion players of all levels included musicians from Redbridge, Hendon, Manchester, Leeds and the JLGB’s newest band in Hertfordshire. Linda Diamond, JLGB’s National Bands' Director said: “We haven't had a Band Camp for a few years, but the numbers in all JLGB Bands have been increasing rapidly, so we wanted to bring everyone together to learn some new music and to bond as one big JLGB Band family." ILFORD GIRLS JLGB WIN THE EDWARD C. GREENBURY MEMORIAL BANNER200 members of the London Region of the Jewish Lads’ & Girls’ Brigade (JLGB) were present when a triumphant Ilford Girls, led by Brigade Captain Elise Cirsch, won the 2010 JLGB Banner Competition. Elise Cirsch said: “I am absolutely thrilled that we won this competition; the members and staff worked extremely hard. We have waited six years to get to this stage and I am extremely proud of each and every one of them.” JLGB's YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING TRIUMPH100 members of the Jewish Lads’ & Girls’ Brigade (JLGB) from all over London and Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff, Glasgow attended “inspiring” leadership training weekends, thanks to the Jewish Youth Fund. The National Open College Network training weekend focused on communication, planning, team-building and leadership skills; everything to benefit the young people in following the footsteps of their own outstanding leaders and mentors. THE NEW JLGB HERTSMERE BAND LAUNCHES WITH A FANFARE AND MANY NEW MEMBERSAfter months of preparation and running musical workshops in all the Jewish schools in Hertfordshire, the new JLGB Hertsmere Band opened last Wednesday in partnership with Yavneh College. The Band opened with 18 excited new members and numbers are expected to rise to over 30 the weeks to follow. Everyone had a fantastic time, making new friends, showing off their musical skills or deciding which instrument they would like to learn. JLGB VOLUNTEER LEADERS RECEIVE THEIR AWARDSJewish Lads’ & Girls’ Brigade (JLGB) volunteer leaders are the best and to enforce this, an Awards evening was held at Kaifeng Restaurant where they were honoured for their selfless and generous commitment to JLGB. Amongst the Awards presented was a Special Award to Joanne and Norman Zinger from Glasgow for their “Outstanding contribution to JLGB and its Leaders”. Jo and Norry, as they like to be called, have been a major factor in the success of JLGB in Glasgow and are very highly thought of throughout JLGB. More News > |
