With JLGB announcing the opening of a new band in Hertfordshire for January 2010 musical workshops have been run at Hertsmere Jewish Primary School, Clore Shalom School and Yavneh College.
Pupils were shown a range of instruments including trombones, clarinets, drums, saxophones, glockenspiels, flutes and trumpets and were then given the opportunity to bang, blow and bash away to their hearts content – some even managed to get a tune out!
JLGB Hertsmere Band looks like it’s going to be a hit with over 30 young people already signed up. The band will be meeting at Yavneh College on Wednesday evenings under the leadership of Karen Globe, who has many years experience of running a JLGB Band.
One of the first events that the band members will be able to take part in is the JLGB National Band Weekend from Friday 12th to Monday 15th February 2010 – this will be a chance to get some practice in on their chosen instruments and meet many of the other JLGB band members from across the UK.
The JLGB has been going through some exciting changes to help better meet the needs and support local Jewish communities so all in all it’s a hugely exciting time to get involved with the JLGB as the countdown begins to 2010 when the JLGB will be celebrating its 115th Anniversary.
