200 members of the London Region of the Jewish Lads’ & Girls’ Brigade (JLGB) were present when a triumphant Ilford Girls, led by Brigade Captain Elise Cirsch, won the 2010 JLGB Banner Competition.
Elise Cirsch said: “I am absolutely thrilled that we won this competition; the members and staff worked extremely hard. We have waited six years to get to this stage and I am extremely proud of each and every one of them.”
The Banner Competition, which is the longest standing Jewish youth competition in the UK, is hotly contested every year when all JLGB groups in Greater London compete to be the best all round JLGB Group.
Event organiser, Nigel Shapiro said: “The JLGB members all gain a sense of pride and commitment to their group and their leaders, whether they win or lose. This is also another chance for everyone to all get together and have a most enjoyable fun day”.
The runners up were Kingston with Borehamwood taking third place; members from Bushey, Edgware, Hendon Band, Radlett, Redbridge and Woodford also took part. Ilford Girls will now compete against the winners of the Provincial Walton Trophy for the National Ancill Trophy (including JLGB groups from Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff and Glasgow) at Summer Camp 2010.
