JLGB Leader Antony Lane ran the Virgin London Marathon for the sole purpose of raising funds for the Jewish Lads’ & Girls’ Brigade. He pledged to run, walk or crawl the 26 plus miles to make sure he completed the task. His target of £3,000 has nearly been reached and he is also hoping to go above that magic figure as donations are still coming in.
In this, the JLGB’s 115th Anniversary year, Antony has carried on the family tradition following in the footsteps of his father, Lewis "Bronco" Lane, who also raised many thousands of pounds for JLGB.
Antony says: "All of us got so much out of JLGB as kids, and made friends that we are still so close with today. Perhaps we under-appreciate sometimes just how much of a good footing in life JLGB gave us all, and the thousands of families it supports to take part in positive activities each and every week across the UK. To be honest, running the marathon is the least I can do to say thank you - I hope as many JLGB’ers and their families will sponsor me, not for me, but to raise much needed funds so that the JLGB can give the next generation of children the same opportunities to succeed in life it gave all of us".
The funds raised will go towards the many activities JLGB offer young people aged 8 – 18 years. Activities that include The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, for which the JLGB is the only Jewish Operating Authority, leadership training delivering NOCN qualifications, Intergenerational and Interfaith projects, national summer and winter camps, Israel Tours, music, drama, to name just a few.
