JLGB’S SARAH LASHER IS THE CHILDREN’S AID COMMITTEE YOUNG VOLUNTEER AWARD WINNER 2010

JLGB’s Sarah Lasher was awarded The Children’s Aid Committee Young Volunteer Award at the recent Jewish Volunteer Awards 2010. The awards were hosted by the Jewish Volunteer Network (JVN) and HW Fisher & Company.

It was not difficult for JLGB to nominate Sarah for this Award, which recognises an individual of school age who has made an exceptional contribution to the Jewish voluntary sector.

JLGB Chief Executive Neil Martin said: “Sarah is the epitome of a young leader and ambassador for young people; she is enthusiastic, committed to the JLGB and through our leadership training courses, she has gained great leadership skills and confidence.”

Sarah volunteers in a junior leadership role at JLGB Hendon Band and helps out with all aspects of the group, running activities and providing encouragement to the younger members with their music and generally helping out.

In September 2009, Sarah was appointed Senior Youth Leader of the Middlesex Region of the JLGB with the responsibility of looking after all the 16-18 year olds in the Middlesex area. Working with the Middlesex team she now puts on events and helps to promote JLGB activities nationally as well.

On her award, Sarah said: “Last night was amazing. There were some really incredible and inspirational volunteers there, people who have contributed to the community for their whole life. The format of the night was great and there was never an opportunity to get bored. Wining an award was an enormous surprise - I was so so flattered to have been nominated, and being shortlisted was REALLY exciting, but I never in a million years thought I'd win! Thank you so much to everyone!”

JLGB has a long tradition of volunteering both within the organisation and for the wider Jewish and other communities. JLGB has been running volunteer fairs in Jewish schools for a number of years and is now running them in partnership with JVN. Over 4,000 young people have participated in some form of volunteering through JLGB since 1999!
