There are many who may say that the Jewish communities of Redbridge and Essex are declining, however this isn't the case for the Jewish Lads' and Girls' Brigade where numbers are thriving.
JLGB Woodford Seniors now has well over 50 members and have started a waiting list. Brigade Captain Shirley Lane, leader of JLGB Woodford Seniors said: "Since taking over last year, numbers have gone through the roof and the JLGB is very much back on the map in Woodford!.
JLGB's Redbridge Band follows closely behind with over 45 members and the new Ilford Girls has also seen a vast increase in membership. JLGB Junior Units in Redbridge and Woodford also continue to grow and places are still available for those aged 8-11.
Gillian Goodman, leader of Redbridge Juniors said "This is a great time to join your local JLGB Junior Unit. This term's activities are proving really exciting and we are delighted to see so many new members joining us recently, and we'd love welcome many, many more in to the JLGB family.
Under the new regional management of Brigade Major Deborah Roos, all the Essex based JLGB groups are really thriving and plans are afoot to open a new Ilford Boys' Group, and to reopen old favourites, with the return of JLGB Juniors and Seniors in both Stamford Hill and Southend.
Deborah said: "There is only one thing that stops the Brigade expanding in this area even further, and that is the need for even more adult leaders. Our JLGB leaders do a sterling job, but we need greater numbers in order to cater for the constant requests to open these new units and more.
If you are an ex Brigade member or willing parent, and would like to help the JLGB to mould the future of Jewish Youth, then please be in touch.
