JLGB IN YOUR AREA

JLGB - The First few weeks

The first few weeks in a new group are always the worst, aren't they?? Not at JLGB! We promise you'll feel at home from your very first visit to a JLGB 'company' - that is the name for each local group.

What kind of companies can I belong to?

Companies vary from area to area - some are for boys or girls only and others are mixed groups. They include pipe, brass and other bands for those who can already play or want to play a musical instrument and other companies that feature sports, crafts, hobbies, adventure activities, first aid and dozens of other activities in their programmes.

I've found my local company. What next?

From your first week at your local company you'll become a Provisional Member. This means that you will spend your first eight weeks learning all about us and deciding if you want to become a full member. It will also give your parents the chance to get to know us before they spend some money on your uniform!

Each week the officer commanding the company will spend time with you and test you on one or two simple things that you will have learned the week before. If you pass these easy tests you will receive the first parts of your Brigade uniform - a lapel badge, a hat and a hat badge. At the end of your first eight weeks you will be ready for your full uniform.

What happens after eight weeks?

If, after eight weeks, you have decided that you like us and that you want to become a Full Member (and the local officer has decided that you are the right sort of person for the Brigade) you will be enrolled.

You will be asked to read out a Full Member's Undertaking which is simply your promise that you will try to be a good member and to observe the Brigade's objects.

As a Full Member you will be able to wear the rest of your Brigade uniform plus the badges that tell other members to which company you belong.

You are now ready to join hundreds of others in experiencing the world of the JLGB.
