JLGB SCHOOLS

JLGB WORKING IN CLOSE PARTNERSHIP WITH SCHOOLS & SHULS ACROSS THE UK

The JLGB has a reputation for high quality; it is precisely because of this that the JLGB works in partnership with nearly every Jewish school in the Country. Hundreds of children sign up each year through their school to take advantage of the programmes that the JLGB has to offer.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, for which the JLGB is the ONLY Jewish Operating Authority, is open to young people between the ages of 14 and 25. To achieve the Bronze, Silver or Gold Award participants have to complete one activity in each of four separate sections. These are: Service, Skills, Expedition and Physical Activity. If you want to try for the Gold Award you have to complete an additional fifth section - the Residential Project.

In the Expedition section safety is of paramount importance and no participants are allowed to go unsupervised until their instructors are certain of their competence.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme will give you valuable experience of working in the community and will help broaden your horizons. You'll find it a challenging and worthwhile experience and it is highly valued by both Universities and employers.

Other programmes on offer from the JLGB include the annual Sir Peter Lazarus Debating Competition, the Challenge Award for Jewish Youth (JLGB's prestigious Award aimed at 8 to 11 year olds) and the Gateway Award for those with special needs.

The JLGB's volunteering programme works in partnership with over 50 organisations. Finding something of interest even for the most indecisive young person is never a problem; in fact the JLGB has placed over 500 young people so far. JLGB volunteers not only make a big difference to the Jewish community but to the wider community too. JLGB volunteers can now qualify for the Millennium Volunteers Award and the Young Citizen's Award, two Government initiatives which the JLGB is accredited.

Adventure Israel Tour is the JLGB's own unique tour for those aged 16 years. It is the experience of a lifetime, like no other tour. A chance to earn a PADI Scuba Diver certificate, survival in the Negev, activities side by side with Israeli teenagers, treks through the Galil, kayaking in the Jordan River and abseiling down a waterfall are just some of the activities for the three week tour. Last year also saw the introduction of JLGB's new Europe Tour for those aged 17 years.

YOU CAN SIGN UP TO TAKE PART AT:
