THE SERGEANTS' MESSSergeants - work hard, play hard! From the age of 16, members are eligible to become sergeants. The sergeants are the senior members of a company, and they wear three stripes on their uniform. They’re involved in the planning and implementation of the weekly programme of activities, and help to train our other members in sports, games, drill, music and leadership – helping them to move up the JLGB promotions ladder and become sergeants themselves. In each of the two Regiments, the sergeants form a collective – the Sergeants’ Mess. Both messes are led by a Mess President, who represents their sergeants in the wider Brigade. The Mess President and his or her committee make sure the sergeants are organised and available to attend important functions all through the year. But it isn’t all hard work; the committee also arranges social events for the sergeants as a reward for their dedication. At National Camps, the Sergeants’ Mess is a place for the sergeants to relax, socialise and be entertained after a long day on camp, and once a year all the sergeants in the Brigade come together for a National Sergeants’ Camp that is entirely planned and run by sergeants, for sergeants. Because of their vital roles, the sergeants are among the most important members of JLGB, and most sergeants go on to train as Junior Leaders before being granted either a warrant to become a Warrant Officer, or a commission to become an Officer. But they’ll never forget their years in the Mess… Click here to go to the Sergeants' Website. (opens in new window) |
