JLGB VOLUNTEERS

GIVE SOMETHING BACK
TO YOUR COMMUNITY!

What is volunteering?
Volunteering is spending time, without pay, doing something helpful for the other individuals or a group. It is about meeting new people, acquiring new skills, gaining valuable work experience and having fun.
There are many, many types of voluntary service that you may want to get involved in - just a few examples of projects you could chose from are... one-to-one care work with disabled youth, providing entertainment at a residential home, organising sports for less-advantaged children, visiting people who are house-bound or in hospital, making charity collections or getting involved in fund raising, visiting families with special needs, working with the homeless, organising outings for disabled children, getting involved with campaigns, producing a newsletter or website for other volunteers, learning to use sign language, assisting at a day centre, running youth clubs...
Who can volunteer?
Anyone can be a volunteer if they have enthusiasm and some free time. We are looking specifically for 14-17 year old Jewish young people to get involved in our JLGB Voluntary Service Project.
When can I be a volunteer?
With school and other commitments you may have limited amounts of free time - but volunteering can be anything from a one-off event or an occasional outing, to a regular weekly activity, depending on time and preferences. It could be a school holiday project, something you do on Sundays, or one night in the week. It can be combined with social activities; take part with your friends or your youth group.
Where can I be a volunteer?
There are charitable organisations, both Jewish and non-Jewish all over the country that have opportunities for volunteers. The JLGB will help people from any region to get involved.
Why be a volunteer?
  • It offers a chance to help others who are less fortunate (children, disabled, elderly, homeless, disadvantaged).
  • You can meet new people (other volunteers, people you are helping, wider community)
  • You will acquire new skills (organising people, creative skills, communication, working with people)
  • It gives you a chance to try different types of work (work experience, good for UCAS or CV, career possibilities)
  • It increases your confidence and gives you a sense of achievement having faced new challenges.
How can I become a volunteer?
Simply by phoning our Information Desk at 020 8989 8990, or e-mail getinvolved@jlgb.org
