Due to the COVID-19 restrictions we are not running any face-to-face youth provision at this time. However, the good news is that JLGB Virtual is continuing every Thursday evening from 6.30pm. Tune in and watch previous shows now at www.jlgb.org/virtual

What instruments can I play?

There is a wide range of instruments you can learn, including the flute, saxophone, bugle, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, baritone, oboe, piccolo, trumpet, tuba, trombone, bells, percussion, bass drum and snare drum and if you don't know the difference between a piccolo and an oboe, don't worry, that's what we're here for!

Don't forget you could be a Mace Bearer too!

Why learn an instrument?

We’ve put together our Top Ten reasons why you should learn a musical instrument:

  • It’s a creative outlet that will boost your confidence
  • JLGB Band connects you with young people from all over the UK and from around the world
  • Having extra skills is great to put on your UCAS form and CV when you’re applying for jobs
  • You will learn and perfect a skill that you’ll have for your whole life
  • Music offers you a retreat if you feel overwhelmed or under pressure
  • You don’t just leave the music at JLGB, it’s with you all the time
  • Our music tuition is fun, enjoyable, interesting and exciting
  • It’s another way to engage with different cultures and types of music
  • You get an amazing sense of achievement
  • Scientists say that young people who are exposed to music tuition fare much better at school, college and university than those who haven’t been.
‘The one thing I regret not doing at school was learning a musical instrument. Now I do it every week at JLGB and I love it!’ Jessica S.

All you have to do is come with an open mind and a desire to learn and we'll do the rest!
